Nick Peacock reflects on the launch of the Michael Peacock Rising Talent Awards for 2024!
"My late father liked a stirring catchphrase. One of his favourites was "drive and focus". It's a phrase which came vividly to mind when I first looked through the entries for the inaugural Michael Peacock Rising Talent Award - all of them had drive and focus in bucketloads. Picking a winner from this talented group was an invidious task, but we wanted a story we could tell, and which others could tell in turn, which would inspire the next generation in the agricultural sector. We found a worthy winner in Bailey Elliott, and - by the closets of margins - a highly commended nominee in Ian Wright. When this year's crop become Ministers of State, captains of industry and pioneers of novel farming methods and food production, I hope they will think back to their roots in rural Lincolnshire, to the spark which led them to be nominated for this award, and to the drive and focus which has sped them on their way. My Dad was passionate about agriculture and about bringing on the new generation - he would be as proud of these young agriculturalists as I was of him when I had the honour of presenting this year's award. I look forward to meeting more and more of this new generation, who give us all renewed hope for the future!"
The Michael Peacock Rising Star Award launched for 2024!
The Lincolnshire Agricultural Society (LAS) are excited to launch a new award, celebrating the youth in our agricultural industry, kindly sponsored by Peacock and Binnington in memory of the late Michael Peacock.
The Rising Talent award aims to celebrate and recognise those who are starting their careers in the Agricultural industry and are already excelling. Nominees will be forward thinking; progressive and passionate individuals working within agriculture or allied organisations and will be actively promoting the industry to the next generation or others. Members of the LAS can now nominate an employee, fellow volunteers or an outstanding friend who are making a difference in the industry or contributing to success.
Graham Main, Managing Director of Peacock and Binnington said: ‘Michael had a real passion for spotting talent, training them and encouraging them the importance of ‘self learning’ so they pushed themselves to develop too. This is a great category and something he would be very much in favour of’.
